A few other options….

It didn’t take me very long to find a some other venue options in the same area as the PERFECT HOUSE.  As sad as I am about it not being septically sufficient for a big shindig, I’m still hopeful that something even better will pop up.

We’re planning to take one of the first weekends in January to head up to Whidbey and check out a couple of places:

1.  Greenbank Farm

This place looks great, the price is right, and it could really be a fantastic venue.  The only downside I see is fitting the Maritime theme into a barnyard setting.  We could put a rowboat or a dinghy-sailboat on the pond, and apparently there’s a great view of Holmes Harbor and the Sound.  Maybe the maritime feel can be conveyed?  It is an island, after all, and you’ll have to take the ferry to get there.

UPDATE:  This farm is actually VERY close to Puget Sound…..shouldn’t be an issue with a Maritime faux pas.

Hooray for GoogleMaps.

2.  Freeland Hall

A popular spot on Whidbey, at the bottom of Holmes Harbor, the Freeland Hall is your typical small town country meeting hall.  Reminds me a bit of the Grange halls out in the rural Thurson County area.  Pretty setting near the bay, a big indoor hall for eating/dancing, a stage for karaoke or other shenanigans, and a decent price: $1,900 for 3 days.  It’s around our venue rental price range, but we probably won’t really need the 3 days.  We’d have a lot of flexibility, though, and I don’t see a problem with the maritime decor clashing with this place.

Any other places we shouldn’t miss while we’re there?
